Midea Building Technologies (MBT) has unveiled the world’s first full-process AI-empowered chiller lighthouse factory, located in Chongqing. The site has been designated a lighthouse factory for its intelligent manufacturing and sustainable industrial practices.
MBT’s Chongqing factory stands out for its integration of artificial intelligence across R&D, production, and after-sales service. The facility manufactures large-scale central air conditioning systems used in airports, high-speed rail stations, industrial plants, commercial buildings, and data centers.
To meet rising demand for customization and address increasing production complexity, the factory has implemented machine learning, augmented reality, and AI-based platforms. These tools support intelligent design, agile production, and custom delivery workflows. Reported outcomes include an 81% reduction in chiller selection time, a 45% cut in product design cycle, and a 31% decrease in maintenance rates.
The Chongqing site also implements zero-carbon initiatives through energy management and carbon offsetting. Its central air conditioners are in use at international projects including Cyprus’ Mary 260MW power plant and Thailand’s Big C retail complex.
