Ambuja Cements join AFID to achieve net zero emissions

Ambuja Cements joined the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID), becoming the first cement manufacturer globally to be part of this initiative. The alliance promotes collaboration across industries to accelerate the transition to Net Zero in alignment with the Paris Agreement.

With the cement industry known for its high carbon emissions, Ambuja Cements is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. Its targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). To support these goals, the company has announced a RS 100 bn investment in renewable energy projects, including a 1 GW renewable capacity and 376 MW from Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS). By FY2028, these projects are expected to supply 60% of the company’s power needs with green energy.

In the last fiscal year, Ambuja Cements utilised over 8.6 million tonnes of waste resources and achieved impressive sustainability milestones, becoming 11 times water-positive and 8 times plastic-negative.

Through its participation in the alliance, Ambuja Cements aims to reduce its environmental footprint and contribute to global climate goals.
