Beyond.pl and Veolia to recover waste heat in Poland

Beyond.pl, a data center, cloud, and managed services provider, has partnered with Veolia Energia Poznan on a project to recover waste heat generated by the former’s campus in Poznan, Poland.

The project will focus on constructing and operating an innovative waste heat recovery system designed to optimize the byproduct of data processing.

This solution will integrate high-density servers and industrial-grade heat pumps. Excess heat from data centers will be channelled into the district heating network, ensuring heat delivery at the necessary parameters.

The recovered heat will subsequently serve as a low-carbon energy source for Poznan’s residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The project’s thermal capacity is expected to reach 30MW in its first phase, reducing carbon emissions by 52,500 tons annually and water consumption by 76,500 cubic meters annually.

The project is tied to Beyond.pl’s push to increase the target capacity of its Poznan data center campus to 150MW to facilitate the installation of high-density IT infrastructure supporting Artificial Intelligence deployments.
