Flexitallic signs an agreement with SOFC technology

Flexitallic announced that it has signed a long-term, preferred supplier agreement with a leading developer of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) technology to supply Thermiculite® high-temperature sealing materials. The agreement marks a milestone in Flexitallic’s development of technology to support the new energy transition and comes at a crucial time for the commercial roll-out of fuel cell and electrolyzer technology. Thermiculite® is recognized by the leading developer of SOFC technology as the material of choice for compression sealing to achieve a high sealing efficiency and is noted for its high-temperature stability, wide chemical resistance, and electrical insulation properties.

SOFC technology boasts an overall efficiency of 85%. The systems are modular, scalable, and efficient, and can be operated with eco-friendly biogas or natural gas and are hydrogen compatible without any modification.

Flexitallic’s know-how in providing long-term sustained sealing solutions in high temperature and other arduous environments is a key enabling technology in SOFC which operate at temperatures up to 1000°C.

Thermiculite® can be utilized for sealing within the fuel cell stack and provides crucial sealing between the electrochemical cells. It can also being applied across connections in the balance of plant components.
