Nikon and America Makes to adopt Constellium’s Aheadd®

Nikon teams up with America Makes to push forward the adoption of Constellium’s Aheadd® CP1 Aluminium alloy, powered by Nikon SLM Solutions NXG XII 600 multi-laser large format L-PBF systems.

This multi-phase project, funded by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defence, Manufacturing Technology Office (OSD ManTech) through America Makes, opens the door to new possibilities in thermal management and heat exchanger components, which are vital to the aerospace and defence sectors. It is a big step forward in its mission at Nikon Advanced Manufacturing to accelerate AM technologies that strengthen the U.S. Defence Industrial Base.

Project partners include Constellium, ASTM International and 3Degrees, and the program will benefit from the guidance of a world-class advisory consortium of prime defence metal AM experts from Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, RTX, General Atomics, and Honeywell Aerospace Technologies.
