Parakiore wastewater heat recovery system unveiled

The Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre is set to become New Zealand’s leading destination for community recreation, aquatic sport, and elite training. The complex includes a 50-metre competition pool, a dedicated dive pool, multiple hydroslides, leisure pools, and numerous indoor courts, including a show court with seating for 2,500 spectators.

Renowned for both its scale and engineering sophistication, the facility showcases major sustainability innovations developed by CPB Contractors. Among the most significant is a wastewater heat recovery system designed to support long-term, energy-efficient operations at the high-performance centre.

The system can offset up to 3 MW of energy that would otherwise be produced through traditional methods, cutting both the carbon footprint and operational costs of the facility. This wastewater heat recovery setup highlights practical, site-specific innovation—transforming a waste stream into a dependable renewable energy source that supports year-round comfort and sustainability.
